Menstrual Health + Menopause

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), emphasizes the holistic approach to menstrual health and menopause are understood through the lens of restoring and balancing the body's vital energy (Qi), blood circulation, Yin and Yang energies, and the harmonious functioning of the organs; to promote overall well-being.

Menstrual Health - TCM considers the menstrual cycle as a reflection of the overall health of a woman. It's believed that a regular, pain-free menstrual cycle indicates balance in the body, while irregularities or discomfort may suggest underlying imbalances.

Qi and Blood are essential components for a healthy menstrual cycle. Qi provides the energy needed for the menstrual process, while Blood nourishes the uterus and ensures a smooth flow during menstruation. Any disruptions in the flow of Qi or Blood, or imbalances in Yin and Yang energies, can lead to menstrual irregularities such as amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), heavy or scanty periods, and irregular cycles. TCM treatments for menstrual disorders typically involve acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle modifications aimed at restoring balance to the body's energy and promoting healthy blood circulation.

Menopause - Menopause is viewed as a natural transition in a woman's life, signaling the end of her reproductive years. In TCM, menopause is often associated with a decline in Kidney Essence, which is considered the foundation of Yin and Yang energies in the body.

During menopause, there is a gradual decline in the production of reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, leading to various physical and emotional changes. Common symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, insomnia, and vaginal dryness, are believed to result from imbalances in Yin and Yang energies, as well as disturbances in Qi and Blood circulation.

TCM practitioners focus on supporting the Kidney Yin and Yang energies to ease menopausal symptoms and promote overall well-being.

Treatment strategies may include acupuncture, herbal formulas, dietary recommendations (such as incorporating foods that nourish Yin and Yang), stress reduction techniques (such as tai chi or qigong), and lifestyle adjustments to support hormonal balance and alleviate symptoms.
